I wasn’t sure a game which involved just picking and playing tiles on your turn and then claiming certain areas of the gameboard would be for me. I was even more nervous that my wife would not like it because she prefers games that are light without many complicated rules and this one sounded complicated to us. After playing the game we found out we couldn’t have been more wrong. The game is easy to learn and is actually a lot of fun for groups of two to five players.
The basic principles of the game are merely that … BASIC. You start the game with all the tiles turned over except for the beginning tile. Each player has eight meeples (which are tiny figurines) and apply one on the scoring board and the last seven to claim areas of the game board as it is constructed. On your turning the measures are unproblematic. You make a tile, site it on the playing zone so at least one of it’s positions is flush with a new pieces side and that it matches certain placement guidelines (more on these below). After setting the tile you could decide to play one of your meeples on a road, castle, farm, or cloister on the piece you merely played. You are not required to play a meeple on your turning though. After that any completed tile features are scored and the meeples from those features are delivered to the owner.
As distant as the rules for setting a tile they are preferably fundamental.
